Greetings Volunteers,

Yesterday was the first day of fall. Really, how did that happen already? I think we’re all ready for cooler temperatures :-). Yesterday was also National Voter Registration Day. It’s not too late to register to vote; in fact, you, your family or friends can register here. The deadline to register online to vote is Monday, October 19th and the deadline for registering by mail to vote is (postmarked by) Monday, October 19th.

Shelter update: We currently have 155 animals in our care: 63 animals at the shelter and 92 in foster. The  shelter population consists of 9 dogs, 1 puppy, 28 cats, 24 kittens and 1 rabbit.

Adoptions update: Yahoo! This week’s adoption slideshow is extra special because we hit 1,000 adoptions since the COVID-19 shutdown on March 16 in fact, we’ve done 1,024 adoptions to date :). Not even a global pandemic can stop us from finding forever homes for the animals in our community (and beyond). Thank you to all our fosters, adopters and supporters for helping us make this happen!

Gala update: From Joe Lisella, Director of Development: “I’m excited to share that we raised more than $420,000 at Gala 2020! This is a phenomenal achievement for an online event and a testament to the work of many – especially while working through the pandemic and everything else 2020 has thrown at us. Thank you to the dozens of volunteers who contributed financially to the success of the evening. This sends a very strong message of our unified commitment to expand the number of Lives made happy at Marin Humane.”

Unique volunteer opportunity: Butte County Animal Services and NVADG (North Valley Animal Disaster Group) the volunteer groups managing the emergency animal shelters, are seeking additional animal care volunteers for the next three weeks (in the Oroville area). They are looking for folks who have had: some prior experience with animal care and handling, prior disaster response experience, completed the FEMA 100c and 200c online courses, and preferably, CERT training (but CERT is not mandatory). If you’re interested in helping our neighbors to the northeast — and their animals — please contact Anne Oliver at aboliver@marinhumane.org for more details. Thanks for considering this much needed volunteer role.

Virtual Pet Fair: The ever-popular Bay Area Pet Fair is underway! It’s virtual this year to keep everyone safe and we’re so grateful to Pet Food Express for keeping the tradition alive and continuing to support shelters during a difficult year. There are two ways to participate: ADOPT and SHOP! Pet Food Express is donating $25 to our shelter for every adoption through October 11 and they’re also donating 4% of every purchase made through our custom shopping link back to our shelter. Get a new friend or get some top-notch pet supplies and either way you get to support Marin Humane! To support the shelter by shopping through our custom link, just click here. Tails of Marin: This week, our Tails of Marin features a guest column by our friends at WildCare. “Smoky air is dangerous to wildlife, too,” answers many of your questions about how our current air quality affects wildlife. Enjoy.

Take good care,

Anne and Candace
