Well, we did it … we hosted our first ever (and hopefully only!) online virtual GALA! It was an evening like no other in our 113-year history. We hope many of you joined the “festivities” from the comfort of your home. We’re still calculating the amounts raised and will report back next week. Many, many thanks to the volunteers who participated in the live and silent auction bidding as well as the Fund a Need in support of the shelter animals and people we serve in our community!
Exciting Announcement: Hopefully you’ve received and read the exciting announcement from Nancy McKenney sent earlier today. In a nutshell, Marin Humane and Hopalong Animal Rescue, longtime collaborators, are officially joining forces as part of our goal to end pet homelessness in the Bay Area by 2030. Our combined efforts have a shared mission — to transform lives through exceptional animal care, humane education, and advocacy, and to inspire compassion and positive relationships between animals and people. We’re super excited about this alliance with Hopalong that will have a very positive impact on animals in need. In case you missed it, you can read Nancy’s Announcement About Hopalong.
Shelter update: We currently have 139 animals in our care: 100 animals in foster and 39 in the shelter. The shelter population includes 13 dogs, 2 puppies, 12 cats, 9 kittens, 1 rabbit, and 2 parakeets.
Adoptions update: Since March 16th, we’ve done 976 adoptions! Even apocalyptic skies and ash didn’t stop the adoptions this past week! We’re thrilled that so many animals found forever homes in spite of everything. Thank you to all the adopters :-). For this week’s adoption slideshow, click here.
Take care of your heart: We’ve included some information on self-care in the Volunteer Blog from time to time. The topic is important. And as the pandemic persists, fire season is upon us, and a myriad of other factors affect our daily lives, we wanted to share a concise blog article from Jessica Dolce, a compassion fatigue educator, called 4 Ways to Care for Your Heart During COVID-19. Remember to take time to tend to yourself, so you can keep caring for others :-).
Marin Voice: Yesterday, this Marin Voice piece appeared in the IJ’s Opinion section. A great reminder to include everyone in our circle of compassion, even the two-leggeds! If you can’t read the article on the Marin IJ online site, click this Marin Voice page.
September 19th is National Puppy Mill Awareness Day: Thus, it’s the subject of this week’s edition of our Tails of Marin column.
On a lighter note … Some of you may have already seen this video but we think you’ll feel better after watching it. we did. And it doesn’t even feature animals, go figure. You’re welcome.
Be well. Stay safe.
