About the animal:

“Archie”

We would like to introduce you to Archie, who is a 1-year-old cattle dog mix weighing about 30 pounds. We rescued him as a 12-week-old puppy from the Madera County Animal Shelter. Unfortunately, he is not integrating well into our busy household (2 young kids and 2 full-time working parents) and we are looking for a home that would fit his needs and personality better.

What we have found with Archie shortly after adopting him is that he can be fearful with new people and new dogs. We have put a lot of time into helping him with these issues. We enrolled him in basic training, a private behavioral consult, and a course for reactive dogs at Marin Humane Society. He has made great strides as he is extremely smart and treat-motivated, but he still needs more time dedicated to his continued training.

Though he is reactive with new dogs and new people, once he is introduced to these dogs and people slowly, he does really well. He loves to chase the ball, play with our other dog, curl up beside us for a nap, and hang out with our kitties. He is not destructive and was house-trained in a matter of days given his extremely high canine IQ.

He is a really good dog overall, but we just feel like he would enjoy a home where he has a more space to run and exercise (we have a small house), more time to spend out of his crate (we are working long hours), and fewer kids running around the house (we have two boys and lots of visiting friends).

Please contact us if you are interested in meeting him to see if he is a fit for your home.
