Above & Beyond
Programs for Scouts that teach compassion and kindness to animals.
Our scout programs support troop leaders, complementing their goals while sharing our vision. Programs are led by our education staff and/or volunteer docents and their trained animal ambassadors.
There is a $5 charge per scout for these programs to cover the cost of materials provided. In addition, many groups also hold a fundraiser or collect items for our Pet Care Assistance Program.
Shelter Patch Program – For all scout groups (1 hour)
Come tour Marin Humane to learn about what really happens at an animal shelter! Scouts will have the opportunity to meet an animal and do a project to help the shelter. Scouts will receive the Animal Shelter Patch upon completion of the program.
Daisy Rose Petal Program (45 mins)
We begin this program with a tour of the shelter and end with the story of Juliette Low, founder of the girl scouts. Each scout will have the opportunity to practice safely meeting an animal. This program meets the requirements for the rose Daisy Petal.
Brownie Pets Program
In this program we begin with a tour of the shelter and end with our Animal Needs and the Five Freedoms lesson. The basic needs of pets and how similar they are to our own needs will be emphasized and scouts will create enrichment toys for a shelter animal. Each scout will have the opportunity to practice safely meeting an animal. This lesson meets the requirements for the Brownie Pets Badge.
